Paranormal forces have various ways of showing their presence and assert their dominance. Some of the ways of paranormal are beyond imagination. When we feel we have figured out how paranormal can manifest, that is when paranormal may show a new way of making its presence known. My friend Anisha (pseudonym used for protecting the identity of the individual) had a unique experience with paranormal. This is Anisha's story.
Anisha was in her teen years when this incident occurred. Anisha had been studying in the college. One day Anisha had gone to the college. That day due to some reasons, the classes and the practical sessions got cancelled. Anisha and her group decided to visit the nearby beach and enjoy a short picnic. The plan was made instantly. The group had taken some parcels from the college cafeteria. They had also taken some packaged snacks like chips, sponge cakes, chocolates, cookies. The group headed straight to the beach.
The beach was not very crowded. Apart from Anisha's group, there were no people at the beach. The group was delighted because the whole beach was theirs to enjoy. They can do anything without the fear of being judged. They could sing loudly, they could dance, they could play music - the possibilities were endless. If they got hungry, they were already carrying food. They played and danced at the beach. They had their best time.
As afternoon approached, they got hungry. The group opened the packets from the cafeteria and ate at the beach. After the tiresome activities and pleasant weather at the beach, the food tasted delicious. They enjoyed the sandwiches, wraps, and rice they had brought from the cafeteria. They also ate some of the packed snacks they had brought. After refuelling, the group continued playing games at the beach. They made sand castles. They spent the entire afternoon playing, singing, dancing, and running around like kids. It was turning out to be the best picnic, until it took an expected turn.
As the sunset approached, the pleasant beach turned eerie. The darkness started to engulf the jolly atmosphere. The beach that looked divine in the daylight started to look devilish. Anisha had a really bad feeling - as if something ominous is about to happen. Something they are not prepared for. Something they cannot face or rather should not face. Something that will spoil the fun of the whole day. Anisha did not mention her feelings but asked her group to leave from the beach. She was expecting some resistance from her group, but surprisingly they all agreed in a heartbeat. They had also sensed something creepy. Within next 5 minutes, the group had left the beach. It was just 6 PM but they felt like it was 11 PM.
They returned to the college around 7 PM. By this time they had forgotten about the eerie events at the beach. After a long day at beach. everyone was hungry. Instead of buying something from the cafeteria, they decided to eat the packed snacks which were unopened. The group sat at the table and decided to eat the packed snacks before ordering something new. Anisha was the first one to open the packet. She opened the packet of slice cakes, they had eaten one packet at the beach and one was unopened. To her shock, the cake was covered with fungus - it was bushy, thick, and green. As if the cake was soaked and kept in the incubator for several days. It had become a perfect specimen for a microbiology experiment. Anisha promptly checked the "Best before date" on the packet. The cake was packed a week ago and was good to be eaten for next 40 days. There was no reason for it to get spoilt - except for the bad storage. Anisha blamed it on the cafeteria's ignorant staff and inadequate facility.
The group decided to open the next packet. It was a packet of chips. When opened, it was in the same condition. Foul smell and covered in fungus. The packet was not damaged. The "Best before date" on the packet was several months later. Per the dates mentioned, it was appropriate for consumption. They opened all packets one by one. Each packet had the same issue - foul smell, growing fungus. They sensed something unusual. The cafeteria owner saw the group and felt something was wrong. He came to check on the students. He saw the condition of snacks lying before them. He was shocked too, because he had sold them those packets in the morning. He went inside and got a packet of chips from the same batch as the spoilt packet. The packet contained chips without any anomaly. They were crispy. There was no foul smell or microbial growth. He told the group that there was nothing wrong with the food.
This was when Anisha realised. What if the food was good but the atmosphere wasn't? What if it had to do with the beach? What if what they experienced at the beach had caused it? What if the food attracted "something" at the beach and that entity wanted the food? What if the food got spoilt because they did not give it to the entity? There were a lot of "what if" questions and no answers. There was no other possible explanation other than this one.
Anisha still travels but she ensures something. She carries the food from home. But she does not take the food back to her home, she leaves the leftover food at the spot or feeds it to the stray animals. She believes that entities travel with the food and hence she avoids it at all cost. Anisha still believes that food attracts dark forces. If we do not give them what they ask for, it gets spoilt or unfit for use. Running away does not help. Paranormal does not always slam doors, sometimes it consumes from the inside out. Decay may appear simple, but it could be far more sinister. When Anisha sees her favourite food covered in fungus, she thinks about it - is it a biological phenomenon or a paranormal phenomenon?
