Paranormal forces have various ways of showing their presence. Some show their presence in form of shadows. While some howl. Some show the presence by moving certain objects. Some show their presence by dropping the temperature of a room or at least a particular area. While some show their presence by creating illusion of various aromas. Strange isn't it? But that is how the paranormal forces operate. With paranormal forces nothing can be considered as normal.
My friend Vijay (pseudonym used for protecting the identity) had a strange paranormal experience where he could smell certain cuisines where cooking such cuisine was not possible. This is Vijay's own own encounter.
Vijay was my friend from college. After our graduation Vijay started his career where he worked at a manufacturing and production plant. In the production plant, they used to have different working shifts based on the manufacturing and maintenance time for the machines. Mostly Vijay would get a shift which would continue for the entire month. Vijay an avid machine lover was enjoying his production job thoroughly. The ever changing shifts never bothered him.
Vijay particularly liked working in the late night shift. Late night shift would generally begin at 9:00 p.m. and would end at 6:00 a.m. His primary reason for enjoying the night shift was that no big bosses would be around. He could spend some quality time with himself in the night shift. Vijay also had a plans to pursue further education. So in the night time while the machines were running, he used to get plenty of time to study. Very few people would be around in the night shift who did not mind Vijay studying. They were rather happy that Vijay was awake so they could get some time to sleep. Vijay particularly enjoyed his night shift until that dreadful night.
Vijay was working as usual. The production was proceeding as per the plan. Machines were running hassle-free. Everything was running smoothly. It was around 1:00 a.m. Vijay and his senior made their routine rounds to check the progress of the batch that was ongoing. Machines what doing their job as they were supposed to. Vijay's senior asked him if he had any plans to sleep. Vijay denied as he had just gotten his coffee and he had planned to study while the production batch was continuing. The senior told him that he would sleep for 1 hour and he will be back by 2:00 a.m. Vijay agreed and he told his senior that if he required anything he would wake him up.
At 2:00 a.m. Vijay made another round at the production area. The progress was going on very well. Vijay was returning to the lounge area. In the entire production facility, Vijay and his senior were the only two people. The cafeteria facility used to close at 10:00 p.m. Vijay was walking back to the lounge area, he experienced something unusual. There was a prominent smell of pizza. He could smell oregano, chili flakes, and the cheesy smell of pizza. It was impossible. The cafeteria was closed. Neither had he ordered pizza nor his senior. He looks around to check if anyone had thrown a pizza slice nearby or if the housekeeping staff while carrying the garbage had dropped a slice of pizza somewhere. However, he could not find pizza anywhere. But still the smell of pizza was there. The smell of piping hot pizza with condiments, bell peppers, exotic vegetables, and probably chicken. Vijay was clueless.
It was around 2:30 so he decided to wake his senior and tell him that batch will conclude soon. He went to the lounge area and found that his supervisor was still asleep. Vijay woke him up and told him that the batch would get over in next 30 minutes. The senior woke up and said that they would head back to the production area to start the unloading on time. While walking back to the production area even Vijay's senior noticed the smell of pizza. He asked to Vijay if he had ordered pizza. Vijay denied and said that he encountered the same smell when he came back from the production area. He inspected the area where the smell was prominent, however could not find anything. Vijay was very casual while reporting that. Vijay could see fear in the eyes of his senior. He said to Vijay that they should go to the production area at soon as possible. Vijay thought it was about the batch getting completed and completion of unloading on time. He did not ask his senior and simply followed his orders.
The batch got over. Both of them left the production facility at 6:15 a.m. Vijay got home and went straight to sleep. Next evening Vijay reported to his work at 9:00 p.m. as he was required to. Around 10:30 p.m. when Vijay was having dinner with his senior he asked him about the smell of pizza. His senior told him to stop and not to discuss this topic ever again. Vijay was surprised. He was asking only to rule out any possible contamination hazard.
Few days later Vijay was transferred to the afternoon shift. This time he had a different senior colleague with him. Vijay casually told his colleague about the pizza incident. He also told him that the other senior asked him not to discuss the pizza incident again. Yet, this time he was finally able to get some answers. This time he got to know that the smell of pizza was not only unusual but also little scary.
Senior informed him that production house is not only one of the major production facilities of the organisation but also one of the oldest one in the city. It serves as a breeding ground for paranormal activities. The plant holds at least a century long history. It had been operating since 1900s when there were no safety protocols and regulations. There had been several accidents in the facility. Injuries and deaths were common due to lack of safety measures in the production house. It is said that the production facility is haunted. The "fallen" ones still roam around as a reminder of their fate. Though there have not been any sightings, sometimes some smells are noticed. Sometimes at night one can smell chicken biryani, chicken curry, pizza, or some other delicious food items. That is their way of communication. This revelation made a huge impact on Vijay thought process. He encountered similar experiences on various occasions at the same spot at the facility. Now that he knew the truth, I would cover his nose and leave from there as soon as possible.
Ultimately, the phantom aromas of the haunted production unit served as a chilling reminder that hauntings are not only limited to mysterious sightings, unexplained humming, and cold spots. Paranormal forces can manipulate our senses in any way they want. If you smell food where there could not be any possibility of food, be very careful. It is best to cover your nose, ignore, and keep walking.
