Haunted: Scavengers

Corporate offices which are in a remote area or away from crowded places are generally built on forbidden lands. History of such lands are difficult to find. This could attribute to hauntings at such buildings. Believe me, most of the corporate office buildings are haunted.

This story was narrated to me by a colleague's sister - let's call her Naina (using a pseudonym to protect her identity). This is Naina's paranormal experience.

Naina is a few years elder to me. Needless to say that she started working in corporate before me. Naina started working when the BPO/KPO sector was on a rise. New businesses led to new opportunities, new opportunities led to increased workforce, increased workforce required bigger offices, and to accommodate bigger offices new lands were acquired for corporate offices. 

Naina was working in a state-of-art newly built corporate office. This office building was located away from the railway station and also highway. Though it was in a metro city, it still was surrounded with mountains and forest. The view was breath taking. But mystery lies beneath the scenic beauty.

One day in Naina's office, potluck was planned. Naina was assigned with a responsibility to bring homemade chicken curry for 15 people in her team. On the day of potluck, Naina was carrying ~2 kg of chicken curry. When she reached near her office, she felt uneasy. As she entered the huge office campus, her discomfort worsened. While walking she felt as if someone called her from a short distance. "Naina" she heard loud and clear in a man's voice, but no one was nearby. She ignored and thought that her colleagues are pranking her. 

"Naina, come here," she heard again, this time in a woman's voice. She turned around to find no one. Her restlessness started to grow. She continued to walk. Within seconds, the noises were getting louder and stronger. Then it felt like several people are calling her name, almost like chanting. 

"Naina, Naina, Naina, Naina," she kept hearing and felt a wave of dizziness. The next thing she remembered was that she was at the terrace of the office building. She had no recollection of how she reached there. Office terrace was always locked and only the security head had the keys. Yet there she was, still hearing the voices calling her name. In a scared, exhausted, dizzy, and perplexed state, she was looking around. She was unable to understand what was going on and what to do. 

Suddenly, she thought, "what if I drop the bag carrying food". Without wasting a moment she dropped the bag. Instantly, all the voices stopped. The air felt lighter. Her dizziness and discomfort started improving. In a few minutes, she started thinking clearly and then she sprinted out of that terrace. She ran and went to her office floor. She informed her team what she experienced. For next few days, Naina was down with high fever of unknown aetiology.

While Naina narrated this experience, her voice was shaking. She had learnt the lesson. It is true what folklores tell us - Carrying meat may attract scavenger - animals or spirits.
