Childhood nightmare

All of a sudden, out of nowhere I remembered a nightmare. I must have been 5 years old, yet I remember it vividly.

I saw that I was chasing something or someone. I am running in an open field. While running my dupatta (scarf) gets pulled. I turn around and I see a leafless shrub. I see ahead and suddenly the view in front of me has changed. It is no longer an open field. I am now in an apartment complex which looks just like the one near my home. It looks dreaded. I must have fallen down now. In my nightmare I am about to cry. Just then, a vehicle stops next to me. I see myself in that vehicle peaking outside the window. Looking at my fallen self.

When this nightmare occurred to me, I was scared.

Now I think about it, I feel strange. Why did I remember this nightmare so clearly? Why my 5 year old brain created this illusion? Was this astral projection in my nightmare? Was that me in the vehicle or was that an apparition? Who was real?

All these questions will remain unanswered, I believe

अधिक मास व सहस्त्रचंद्रदर्शन

नुकताच अधिक मास समाप्त झाला. काहीजण त्याला मलमास, धोंडा मास, किंवा पुरुषोत्तम मास असेही संबोधतात. हा अधिक मास कसा झाला हे समजावून घेऊ. प्रत्येक महिन्यासाठी एक विशेष देवता आहे. अधिक मासाला मात्र देवता नव्हती. तरीही हा मास श्रेष्ठ मानला जातो तो कसा? थोडे त्याच्या निर्मिती विषयी. श्री महर्षी व्यास सांगतात, एका वर्षातील बारा महिने म्हणजे एक चांद्र वर्ष होते त्याचा कालावधी अंदाजे ३५४ दिवसांचा. तर एका वर्षातील सूर्याचे बारा राशीतून संक्रमण म्हणजे एक सौर वर्ष. त्याचा कालावधी अंदाजे ३६५ दिवसांचा. त्यामुळे चंद्र वर्ष व सौर्य वर्ष यात दहा-अकरा दिवसांचा फरक पडतो. कालगणनेचा ताळमेळ बसण्यासाठी या दोघांचा मेळ बसवणे क्रमप्राप्त झाले. साधारण दर अडीच वर्षात ह्यामुळे तीस दिवसाचा फरक पडला, म्हणून चांद्र वर्षात एक अधिक मास घेऊन हे सांगड घातली गेली. आता हा महिना कसा ठरवावा? तर ज्या महिन्यात सूर्याचे राशी संक्रमण होत नाही, तो हा महिना धरला गेला. त्यामुळे त्या चांद्र वर्षात बारा ऐवजी तेरा महिने झाले. हा तेरावा महिना म्हणजेच अधिक मास. अधिक महिन्यात ठराविक ऋतू, सणवार, संक्रांत येत नव्हते. लग्न...

Opinion: Upstaging the bride

Wedding season is about to begin. In the event of enthusiasm and glamour, nowadays I am seeing various social media posts featuring the bride, groom, and the whole ceremony. While most of these are wholesome posts, I am seeing a plethora of disheartening posts. Not only the social media posts but I have heard stories from friends and colleagues about how a specific guest was trying to upstage the bride. These posts/stories specifically discuss the following, where the bride is upset because: a wedding guest is wearing their own wedding outfits a wedding guest is wearing the outfit in the same colour or similar to that of the bride a wedding guest is wearing a bright colour which is drawing the attention away from the bride a wedding guest is prettier than the bride a wedding guest is wearing a designer outfits or a designer inspired outfit Most of these outfits could be inappropriate for the western weddings.
