What do I want to put on display when I post a selfie? Is it a new dress? New accessories? Outfit idea? Rings? Earrings? All of them? None of them? It depends. For me, selfie is a self expression. It is an art.
A couple of days ago I came across something very disturbing. A colleague showed me a social media post. This post was created by my colleague's friend (OP). The post was about an art created by her brother for her daughter. Normal right? Until it isn't. The OP's brother is a painter an artist. The post shows that her brother had small amount of his blood extracted. This blood was taken on to a palette. He has used his blood to create a painting of his niece (OP's daughter). The girl appears to be three or four years old. He had painted his niece with his own blood on a canvas. This painting was gifted to the niece on her birthday. In this social media post the entire process of creating this painting was shown right from drawing of blood from the painters vein till gifting this painting to his niece on her birthday. The worst part is that the OP had mentioned "I am proud of you brother" as the caption of the post. After seeing this post I was deeply distur...
This morning, after waking up I immediately noticed a moth outside our bedroom window. I was intrigued. It was raining heavily outside yet it still rested on the window. It was gone within minutes. But the moth's arrival reminded me of 2 specific stories I was told. First story was told by my late neighbor. According to that story, goddess Lakshmi visits our homes in form of a moth. Whenever such moths are seen, we should offer kumkum turmeric and bow our heads. Another story was very different from the first one. A colleague told me that our ancestors often visit us in form of moths. They stay in our homes for a couple of days to see whether we are flourishing in our lives. Then, they disappear in thin air. We never see them coming inside our homes or leaving our homes. Both stories were astonishing. However, there is a similarity. Both stories depict the moths as outwordly and holy. Both stories tell us to respect the moths. Both stories consider them to be aus...
Life is truely uncertain. I felt it several times, but not this prominently. At least till this week. Earlier this week, we received a phone call to inform us of sad demise of a neighbor. He was around 40 years old. He had a lot of health issues and was in the hospital of some time. Indeed it was disheartening. Life so young was lost. Later this week, I got similar news about a work colleague who met an unexpected end. He was healthy (at least as per the people around him). He was feeling unwell, hence asked his friend to take him to a hospital. The doctor said he was fine and prescribed medications. He still wasn't convinced and was on his way to another hospital. He died on the way. He was in his 30s. When any young person dies, people always come up with conspiracy theories (recent common theory is COVID vaccine). What worries me is that we do not value the life enough. After the person's death everyone praises them, however the departed ones are rarely praised when they are...
