Middle class life is a sustainable life
Sustainability
In recent years, there has been a sharp rise in the concept of "sustainable living". Several activists, influencers, actors, politicians are using their platforms to advocate sustainability and sustainable life.
I belong to a middle class family. I am all in for sustainable lifestyle. As I am reading more about sustainability, I figure out that being middle class is being sustainable. This is why
1. We (middle class people) never throw away newspapers or printed papers. We recycle them by handing them to scrap dealer (we earn from it).
2. We never throw away plastic bottles or containers. We reuse and repurpose them for storing other articles.
3. We never throw away unusable plastic bottles or containers. We sell them to scarp dealers who later send them for recycling.
4. Tissue papers or hand towels are luxuries. We use cloth towels. Cloth towels are reusable and washable. Once bought, we use them for years.
5. We reuse receipts too. We make them to make lists. Once there is no place to scribble, we stack them to be handed over to the scrap dealer.
6. Most of us prefer using handkerchief rather than paper towels even when we are outside. That cuts our consumption of paper towels.
7. We use stainless steel utensils which are sturdy. We take pride in passing these to our next generations. (I still use utensils which belonged to grandmother)
8. We avoid using paper cups or plastic cups (because they need to be purchased). We prefer using steel cups or porcelain cups.
9. We never throw away our clothes. When our "going out" clothes fade, they simply become our house clothes or lounge clothes. When house clothes become unusable, they become rags.
10. When the clothes shrink, we give those clothes to someone who can actually wear them again.
We hardly throw away anything usable. Either we repurpose them or donate them.
In short being sustainable is being middle class.
